'A Good Framework'

                                               

Our 'dream' is bold - communities where seniors have mobility!  It has taken many years for the local environments in which we live to evolve.  Frequently, local environments evolved without looking at mobility barriers in terms of how seniors move.   In partnership with the Midwest Center for Nonprofit Leadership, nonprofits, cities, service providers and with a generous gift from the Jewish Heritage Foundation - Kansas City, the Mr. Goodcents Foundation is building a 'Framework for Sr. Mobility' - a tool to help communities give seniors the ability to move without barriers.

Kansas City:  The 'Framework for Sr. Mobility' is providing significant insight to how seniors move.   The project is expanding our knowledge about barriers to senior movement.  The number one barrier to seniors driving is deteriorating eyesight.  Seniors with disabilities often need motorized shopping carts or reaching the store is not enough.  Narrow aisles create a barrier to reaching goods for sale.  Public transit stops are at the edge of parking lots creating a walking distance barrier to reaching the goods and services the business sells.  Public restrooms have washing stations on one wall and drying stations on the opposite wall creating standing water and a fall hazard. With this expanded knowledge, communities and businesses can use the data to identify and eliminate barriers to senior mobility.
